Thanksgiving started in the early days of settlement in North America. 
Encourage the children to think about why and when they might be thankful.

Personal, social, and emotional development
Express needs and feelings on appropriate ways. 
Have a developing awareness of their own views and feelings. 

Procedure
1. Beofre the session, cut out a pumpkin-shaped piece of paper for each child and giv them out. 
2. Listen to the song "Autumn Days."
3. Invite the childdren to discuss why and when they say 'thank you.'
4. Ask the children to choose one thing they are thankful for. Write their thoughts in large clear print on their pumpkins. 
5. Share and discuss all the views and feelings written on the pumpkins. 

Questions for discussion:
Why do people say thank you?
When do you say thank you?
What sort of things can you say thank you for?

Resources: Per child, A4 size paper; pencils
